Prospect Park
For a few brief moments, the setting sun broke through the thick blanket of rain clouds that had muted most sounds and spirits earlier in the day, illuminating freshly cut grass and a girl wearing a worn gray sweatshirt. The soft golden rays sharply halted the descending twilight, intruding into gloomy corners and onto damp pavement.
Then, as abruptly as it came, the sun retreated behind a mask of opaque blue clouds, now turning royal purple from the late hour. As if in a final act of defiance and declaration of it's presence, the sun lingered as a glowing yellow outline on the horizon's thick storm clouds, growing ever fainter, ever dimmer, until the bright yellow was snuffed out by a rosy pink veil with a cumulus dark blue trim.
Low lying, pink, cotton candy clouds were the last to leave the evening's performance.
