I heard someone make a very good point today at the Step It Up Rally. The Earth was here eons before us and will continue to be here for eons following our existence- until the sun expands in its giant red star stage and engulfs our solar system, as a matter of fact. Therefore, when we consider the repercussions of global warming, we are not at all concerned about "saving the Earth." She is an entity much greater than ourselves and certainly does not need saving.

So what are we concerned about? Why do demand alternative energies, a cap on carbon emissions, recycling plastic, and reducing waste?
The lives of our next generations.

The planet may still be here in a couple hundred years but what condition will she be in? Will she still support human life? Or will our children and our children's children suffer immensely and experience the greatest mass destruction in human history?

The way the global community is going, our descendants will:
- have significantly less habitable land because much of the current terrain will be underwater.
- enter an energy crisis once the price of oil is equal to buying a diamond.
- suffer from new tropical diseases that will spread faster in warmer temperatures.
- confront more serious weather phenomena including hurricanes, droughts, and floods.
- battle hunger like never before due to more arid crop lands and less available water.
- the list continues... (http://www.yubanet.com/artman/publish/article_54263.shtml)

I do not want to subject my children to this kind of life.
I hope our generation will take the initiative and step up our current efforts. Step up our concern. Step up our pressure on legislation. Step it up today so our grandchildren never have to see a world like that.
